Asian Athletics Championships 2025 -Gumi, South Korea – Indian athlete Gulveer Singh delivered a stellar performance at the 27th Asian Athletics Championships by securing a gold medal in the men’s 10,000 meters race, marking a triumphant start for India in the prestigious event.
The national record holder clocked an impressive 28:50.32 minutes, outpacing Japan’s Yuta Shimoda (28:54.84) and Bahrain’s Birhanu Balew (28:46.82), to clinch the top podium spot. This win not only earned Gulveer his first major international gold but also boosted India’s medal count early in the competition.
Gulveer had earlier created a national record by finishing the 10,000m in 27:00.22 minutes at the Sound Running meet in the USA. In South Korea, he strategically held back in the initial laps before unleashing a strong finishing kick in the last 400 meters to claim victory.
India’s Medal Hunt Kicks Off with Sebastian – Asian Athletics Championships 2025
India’s campaign in the championships began with a medal win from Sebastian, who bagged a bronze in the 20 km race walk event. He recorded a timing of 1:21:13.60 hours, securing third place and contributing to India’s early success. Japan and China claimed the gold and silver in this event respectively.
